me
Hi! I'm Alexandra Sills, an ancient historian from the UK, and I love nothing more than to talk about ancient Greece, Rome and their neighbours.
I obtained my BA in Classical Studies from Birkbeck College, University of London and my MA in The Classical Mediterranean from the University of Leicester, where my dissertation was awarded the Mark Pluciennik prize. Prior to study, I've been a tour guide for over twenty years, working in some incredible buildings and providing my own walking tours of the City of London.
My current research focuses on gladiators, both in the ancient world and in modern movies and TV.
Combining my academic training with my experience in talking with the general public, I hope to continue creating as much accessible content about the ancient world as possible. This site serves as my personal archive of publications and events. As well as writing articles and speaking in podcast interviews, my debut book 'Gladiators in the Greek World: How A Roman Bloodsport Took Ancient Greece by Storm' will be published in 2026.
I offer bespoke walking tours of the City of London on a range of topics, as well as talks for museums and historical associations in the UK (and online worldwide.) I am available for media interviews, historical consultancy work and freelance writing opportunities. For enquiries, feel free to contact me for more details.
